A practice case attempt is billable when a student completes it in the Virtual Patient Simulator. Attempts that are started but never submitted are shown in your usage dashboard for context and are never billed.
Pricing is marginal: your monthly allowance is free, and only the attempts above it are charged, each at the rate for the range it falls in. On Starter, a 300-attempt month is 250 included plus 50 at $0.75, so $37.50. Going one attempt over your allowance costs one attempt, not a re-priced month. Volume rates work the same way: the lower rate applies to the attempts from that threshold onward, not retroactively to the ones below it.
Your organization's usage dashboard shows the running month-to-date figure and the band-by-band breakdown, so the number is never a surprise. Metered usage is invoiced: no card is charged automatically.
